Mortal Kombat (9) - New and Best Gameplay Footage Thus Far!!!
One of the Mortal Kombat developers, presumably Hector Sanchez, is commenting as two fans are playing a demo version of Mortal Kombat (9). The first part shows a 1-on-1 match between Sekctor, player 1, and Reptile, player 2. The second part shows a tag team match between Nightwolf and Johnny Cage on the player 1 side fighting against Mileena and Kung Lao on the player 2 side. Finally, the third part shows some fatalities that we have already seen and that I have posted in this thread (see first youtube video).
Here is what can be observed (first part): - It seems as though regular throws are no longer universal. Every character has a throw that is unique to him or her. - Level 1 of the "super meter" enhances a character's special move. In the video, the Reptile player uses one level of his "super meter" to create a bigger Force Ball. The "super Force Ball" has a bigger start up (i.e., it takes longer for Reptile to release the projectile), but on contact it propels the opponent higher into the air. This property may be useful to extend juggles. - Likewise, Sektor's "super Teleport Uppercut" does an additional hit after the Teleport Uppercut itself. The second hit juggles and allows combo opportunities. - A "combo breaker" can be seen, which takes two levels of your "super meter". - Finally, "X-Ray" attacks can be observed. They do not appear to be custom combos, but rather a serious of canned attacks. Reptile's "X-Ray" attack includes Reptile dashing forward, going invisible, re-appearing and then beating up on his opponent. This does a lot of damage. In general, "X-Ray" attacks are a similar concept to Super Street Fighter IV's deadly "Ultra Combos". - Secktor's "X-Ray" attack actually begins with his projectile. He then follows up with a Teleport Uppercut and finishes with a vicious punch to the ribs, all in an "x-ray mode" view. This also does a lot of damage. - In fact, you can actually see Sektor combo into his "X-Ray" attack at 2:00 seconds. The whole combo did more than half life of damage altogether. - The last thing we see in this fight is a stage fatality done by Sektor on Reptile. Here is what can be observed (part two, tag team): - In tag team, you can switch characters at any moment during the fight and bring in your partner, similar to the Capcom versus series. Characters may have different poses and/or taunts once they enter or abandon the fight. - You can also bring in your partner via him or her doing a special attack. For example, in the video, Johnny Cage calls for Nightwolf and Nightwolf performs his Shoulder Charge special attack as he enters the fight. This costs one level of your "super meter". - You can also call for a "tag assist" while maintaining control of your primary character, similar to the Marvel Vs. Capcom series. In the video, Nightwolf calls for an assist and his partner, Johnny Cage, shortly appears on the screen and throws a double fireball. It is unknown whether any "super meter" is required to perform this action or whether the character doing the "tag assist" can be harmed. - You can combine your partner's special move and "tag assists" to execute all kinds of flashy and damaging combos as seen in the video.
